How to use Unlock PDF in 3 steps

  1. Upload the locked PDF

    Click to pick the protected file on your device or drag it onto the upload area. Attachments you saved to Google Drive can be chosen straight from Drive.

  2. Enter the current password

    Type the password you use to open the file into “Current password”. Passwords are case-sensitive, so check capital letters.

  3. Unlock and download

    Click “Unlock PDF”, then download the password-free copy or save it to Google Drive. You can also continue to compress it, merge it or convert it to Word.

Unlock PDF makes a password-free copy of a file whose password you already know, such as a bank statement, an e-invoice or an internal report. The unlocked copy is easier to archive, print and process with other tools. You need to enter the correct current password, because this tool does not guess or crack passwords.

I forgot the password. Can this tool open the file?

No. Unlock PDF only works with the correct password and does not guess or crack passwords. Ask the sender or the organization that issued the document.

What happens if I enter the wrong password?

You’ll see a wrong-password message and no result file is created. Check capital letters and your keyboard layout, then try again.

Why unlock a PDF before merging or compressing?

Password-protected files usually can’t be processed by other PDF tools. Unlock the file first, then continue straight to Merge PDF or Compress PDF.

Is my bank statement kept on the server?

Files are uploaded over HTTPS and deleted automatically 2 hours after upload. To remove them sooner, click “Delete now” once you have downloaded the unlocked copy.
