How to use Protect PDF in 3 steps

  1. Select the PDF to lock

Drag the PDF onto the upload area or click to choose it from your computer or phone. Files in Google Drive can be added through Google’s file picker.

  2. Set the password to open

Type a password of 4 to 128 characters in “Password to open”. Write it down somewhere safe, because it cannot be recovered later.

  3. Protect and download

Click “Protect PDF” to create the locked copy, then download it or save it to Google Drive. Send the file and share the password through a different channel.

Features

Protect PDF locks a file so it asks for a password before it opens, which suits contracts, payslips, bank statements and ID scans you send by email. The password can be 4 to 128 characters long and cannot be recovered if you forget it, so keep an unlocked original somewhere safe.

  • The protected PDF asks for the password every time it is opened in a PDF reader.
  • Choose your own password of 4 to 128 characters for each file.
  • The locked copy keeps your file name plus -bao-ve, e.g. contract.pdf becomes contract-bao-ve.pdf.
  • Remove the password later with Unlock PDF, as long as you still know it.
  • Files are sent over HTTPS and deleted after 2 hours; “Delete now” removes them as soon as you’re done.

Frequently asked questions

What if I forget the password I set?

The password cannot be recovered, and BigQTools has no tool that guesses passwords. Keep an unprotected original or store the password in a safe place.

What do recipients need to open the protected PDF?

Any common PDF reader on a computer or phone will do. It asks for the password before showing the content.

How should I share the password?

Don’t put it in the same email as the file. Send it by text message, a phone call or another channel, so the two don’t leak together.

Can I remove the password later?

Yes. Open the file in Unlock PDF and enter the current password to get a copy that opens without one.
