Features
This page opens Restore Old Photo with Colourise already switched on. AI looks at what is in the picture, such as skin, hair, sky, grass, wood and fabric, and adds believable colour to black-and-white, sepia or faded prints. Because the switch is on from the start, brownish sepia and yellowed photos get colour too, which the normal page only switches on by itself for nearly grey photos. Scratch removal and face sharpening run in the same pass; turn them off if your photo is already clean. Standard quality takes about 30 seconds, High quality about 3 minutes on paid plans.
- Colourise is on from the start, for black-and-white, sepia and faded photos alike.
- AI picks natural colours for skin, hair, sky, plants and clothing from what it sees.
- Removes scratches and creases and sharpens faces in the same pass, or only colourises.
- Drag the slider to compare the grey original with the coloured result, then save it as a full-detail PNG.
- Your family photos are deleted from the server after 2 hours and never used to train AI.
Frequently asked questions
Will the colours match the real ones?
AI guesses colours from the content, so skin, sky and plants look natural, but the exact colour of a dress, a car or a wall from back then cannot be known. If a colour matters, check it with someone who remembers, and treat the result as a believable version, not a record.
Does it work on sepia or yellowed photos?
Yes. On this page Colourise is on from the start, so sepia and yellowed prints get colour too. On the normal Restore Old Photo page the switch only turns itself on for nearly grey photos.
Can I colourise without the other fixes?
Yes. Turn off Remove scratches and creases and Sharpen faces and keep Colourise on. That suits photos that are already clean, such as a scan of a well-kept black-and-white print.
Should I use it on a photo that is already in colour?
It is meant for black-and-white and faded photos. On a colour photo AI would replace the existing colours with guessed ones, which rarely helps; turn Colourise off and use only the repair options.
