How to use Image to Text in 3 steps
-
Choose an image with text
Pick one JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, TIFF or GIF image from your device or Google Drive, or paste an image link. A sharp photo taken straight on in good light works best.
-
Pick the language of the text
The language of the page you are on is preselected. Change it when the text is in another language, or choose Detect automatically if you are not sure.
-
Extract and reuse the text
Click Extract text, fix anything misread right on the page, then copy it, download a TXT file, translate it into another language or have an AI voice read it aloud.

A short read first gets you the right result on the first try.
Features
Image to Text uses Tesseract optical character recognition (OCR) on the BigQTools servers to read the printed text in photos of documents, screenshots, receipts and book pages. It reads 16 languages, including Vietnamese with its accents, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Thai. The text appears right on the page, so you can check it, fix it, copy it or download it as a TXT file.
- Reads 16 languages: English, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, French, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and Thai.
- Detect automatically recognises the script (Latin, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Cyrillic) when you do not know the language.
- Images are turned upright from their EXIF data, converted to grayscale and enlarged when small before reading, so letters come out clearer.
- Edit the text right on the page; the copied text and the downloaded TXT file include your changes.
- One click sends the text on to Translate Text, Text to Speech or Word Counter.
- The file keeps your image’s name: “Receipt.jpg” gives “Receipt.txt”, UTF-8 encoded so any editor opens it.
Frequently asked questions
Can it read handwriting?
Usually not. The tool is built for printed text such as documents, screenshots, receipts and signs. Very neat handwriting is sometimes partly read, but check and correct the result.
Why are some accents or characters wrong?
Most often the wrong language is selected, or the photo is blurry or taken at an angle. Pick the language of the text instead of another one, take the photo straight on in good light, and use Read again in another language to rerun the same image.
What about columns and tables?
The tool finds the blocks of text and reads them in order, so text in several columns still comes out readable. Tables come back as lines of text without the grid; for scanned PDF files, use OCR PDF to keep the pages.
Is my image stored?
The image is only used to read the text. It and the text file are deleted from the BigQTools servers automatically after the retention time shown on the result, and you can delete them right after downloading.
