You also get the most used keywords and how your text fits the limits of X posts, SEO titles, meta descriptions, SMS, Instagram captions and YouTube titles.

Frequently asked questions

How are words counted in Chinese, Japanese or Thai?

These languages are written without spaces, so the counter uses the Unicode word segmentation built into your browser, which splits text with dictionaries: 我爱北京天安门 counts as 4 words. Japanese text also shows manuscript sheets (原稿用紙) and full-width and half-width characters.

Are spaces and line breaks counted as characters?

Characters include spaces but not line breaks; “characters without spaces” leaves out all spaces, tabs and line breaks. Accented letters and emoji count as one character each, the way people see them.

How is reading time calculated?

Reading time uses an average silent reading speed of 238 words a minute, and 500 characters a minute for Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Speaking time uses 150 words a minute, a typical presentation pace.

Is my text saved or uploaded?

No. Everything is counted in your browser and the text is never sent to a server. If you turn on “Remember my text on this device”, it is kept only in this browser and deleted when you turn the option off.
