Connect BigQTools to your AI assistant

BigQTools runs an MCP server: Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, opencode or Antigravity can call the BigQTools tools that compress, convert, merge and trim files — you just say what you need.

Connect in 3 steps

  1. Create a key

    Sign in, open Account › Connect AI and choose Create key. The key looks like bqt_live_… and is shown only once — copy it and store it right away.

    Open Connect AI
  2. Add the server to your assistant

    Paste the configuration below into the tool you use, replace bqt_live_… with your key, then restart the assistant.

  3. Ask your AI to process files

    For example: “Compress https://example.com/report.pdf and send me the download link”. The assistant picks the tool, runs it and returns the result link.

Configuration for each AI assistant

Server: https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP). The key travels in the Authorization: Bearer … header — replace bqt_live_… with your key.

Claude Code

Run in a terminal

claude mcp add --transport http bigqtools https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer bqt_live_…"

Cursor

Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bigqtools": {
      "url": "https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer bqt_live_…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Codex

Add to ~/.codex/config.toml

[mcp_servers.bigqtools]
url = "https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp"

[mcp_servers.bigqtools.http_headers]
Authorization = "Bearer bqt_live_…"

opencode

Add to opencode.json

{
  "mcp": {
    "bigqtools": {
      "type": "remote",
      "enabled": true,
      "url": "https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer bqt_live_…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Antigravity

Add to ~/.gemini/config/mcp_config.json

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "bigqtools": {
      "serverUrl": "https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer bqt_live_…"
      }
    }
  }
}

Antigravity reads serverUrl, not url — with url the server is never loaded.

What your AI can do

The server offers these MCP tools; the assistant calls them in the right order:

  • my_limits — your plan, the runs left today and the largest file you can process.
  • list_tools — every tool with the formats it accepts and its options.
  • add_file_from_url — has BigQTools download a file from a direct download link.
  • add_file — sends a small file inline (up to 8 MB).
  • run_tool — runs a tool on the files you added and waits for the result.
  • job_status · get_result — follow the progress and get the result download links with their expiry.

A run through MCP counts exactly like one on the website: the same limits, the same file size and the same retention as your plan.

Cannot connect?

If your assistant reports a 401, or connects but fails when it runs a tool, check these in order:

  1. The key has not expired and has not been revoked — see Account › Connect AI. If it expired, create a new one.
  2. Your assistant only lets you set certain headers? Send the key as X-BQ-Key: bqt_live_… instead of Authorization.

Two known client bugs

  • Cursor: it has been reported to forward only some headers on tools/call, so the key gets lost halfway — the handshake works, but running a tool returns 401.
  • Claude Code: it has a bug where headers are not sent while the session is set up, so the server refuses the connection right away even with a valid key.

Fallback: put the key in the address

When your assistant drops headers, use the address with the key at the end and leave the header out:

https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp/k/bqt_live_…

For example, with Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http bigqtools https://mcp.bigqtools.com/mcp/k/bqt_live_…

Warning: a key inside the address ends up in server logs, proxy logs and your assistant’s history. Only use it when the header does not work, use a separate key for it, and revoke that key as soon as you no longer need it. Keys that were sent this way are labelled URL on the Account page.

Older assistants that only speak HTTP + SSE: use https://mcp.bigqtools.com/sse.

Still stuck? Contact support with the assistant’s name, its version and the error message — never send your key.

Frequently asked questions

How do I give the AI a large file?

Do not send large files through MCP. Give the assistant a direct download link (Google Drive, Dropbox, your own server…) and BigQTools downloads the file itself. Only small files, up to 8 MB, can be sent inline.

How long are files and results kept?

Just like on the website: uploaded files and results are deleted automatically after your plan’s retention time. Download results before the link expires.

Does the free plan work?

Yes. The key uses your account’s limits: the free plan works within its daily runs and file size. When the runs are used up, the assistant gets QUOTA_EXCEEDED — wait for new runs or upgrade.

What happens when a key expires?

Your assistant gets a 401. Create a new key in Account › Connect AI, put it in the configuration and restart the assistant. Expired keys cannot be renewed.

What can a key do with my account?

Only run file tools in your name, within your plan’s limits. A key cannot read your profile or change your plan or billing, and you can revoke it at any time.

What if I lose my key?

BigQTools only keeps a hash of the key, so it cannot be shown again. Revoke the old key in Account › Connect AI and create a new one.
